Lander screenshot

A faithful C++/SDL port of Lander, David Braben’s 1987 demo for the Acorn Archimedes and the precursor to Zarch and Virus. It’s based on Mark Moxon’s commented disassembly of the original ARM code.

You fly the shuttle entirely with the mouse: tilt it to steer, left-click to thrust, middle-click to hover and right-click to shoot. Destroy trees, buildings and rockets for points, and land back on the pad to refuel. After 800 points, rocks start to fall.

The port keeps the Fourier-synthesised landscape, the thrust, gravity and friction physics, and the particle effects, and adds spatial sound, selectable resolutions and frame rates, and persistent settings. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux.
